Hi, I’m Sam Henney, a qualified coach specialising in the culture and higher education sectors. With over 20 years’ experience in senior roles and consultancy for renowned organisations including Oxford University, National Theatre and Disney Theatrical Productions, I understand the unique challenges professionals face in the arts and education sectors. My coaching is all about helping clients navigate complexity, build confidence and achieve meaningful results.
My career in the arts began with a summer placement at English National Opera in my late teens. Originally set on a career in finance, that experience sparked a passion for the creative industries, leading me to roles in marketing, consulting and leadership across some of the most exciting cultural organisations in the UK and beyond. Along the way, I discovered a natural affinity for helping others succeed, which inspired my journey into coaching.
I hold an advanced qualification in Executive Coaching from the Institute of Leadership & Management and am an EMCC Accredited Coach at Practitioner Level, ensuring my practice aligns with the highest ethical standards. I also contribute as a coach to the Oxford Cultural Leaders programme, an initiative by the University of Oxford’s Saïd Business School and its Gardens, Libraries and Museums, and Clore Leadership to support cultural leaders to tackle the challenges of a rapidly changing world.
Outside of coaching, I’m proud to serve as a Non-Executive Director at Yorkshire Sculpture Park and Compton Verney Art Gallery & Park. I’m also a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
Whether I’m working with established leaders or helping emerging professionals carve their path, my coaching is grounded in a deep understanding of the sector complexity, combined with an unwavering commitment to helping my clients thrive.
Based in Oxfordshire, I work with individuals and organisations across the UK.
